Suzuki Df2.5hp 4 Stroke Consumption?

Hi all

I’ve a new-ish Suzuki 2.5hp 4 strike for my tender; with a 1L inbuilt tank.

I’m off for a cruise up the West coast of Scotland his week and have been paranoid about running out of petrol for it - and rowing is always a pain with 2 people and a small dog in a 2.4m tender.

Can anyone advise what sort of range I should expect for the 1L (I can’t seem to find any stats on that)?

No 'stats' to give you properly
However I do know those engines are very frugal
I would purchase a 'Jiggle Pipe' (Halfords etc about £8) which will enable to re fill the inbuilt tank in pretty short order
Plus no messing about with a funnel
Just keep a 1 gallon proper spare fuel tank(or similar) on the tender untill you get a measure of consumption
As a rule of thumb I would say the running time of the dinghy/tender and it's load you mention
From the inbuilt tank will be about 1 hour at half to three quarters throttle
Just guessing from experience mind!

Its going to depend how much throttle you use, but when MoBo Owner mag tested the DF2.5, they measured consumption at 19nm per gallon at 1/3 throttle for a range of 4nm from its internal tank. Also determined as just over an hour.

Are you sure the tank is only 1 litre?

I've just looked it up being a doubting Thomas! You're right of course, it is 1 litre, just seemed very small to me! The nearest I could find on fuel consumption is "Should last for hours!" …. he should have added - "Trust me, I'm a salesman!"
Allow an hour and carry one of those 5 litre plastic cans on board! … :encouragement:

I generally run mine at 3/4 throttle, this is due to being slightly underrated for a 2.7 with Ali floor. Any more throttle just increases fuel consumption with no gain in speed. From WOT reduce throttle until the engine speed is just dropping, this is the optimum.
This gives me about 4.5 knots with 2 people and around 45 mins for a tank.
Carry a 5l container.
Use V power or ultimate and petrol additive

Hate to be a kill joy....but where are you going in this off the west coast ? Doesn’t sound too clever to me, haha. Some of the tides run faster than you’ll manage in the boat.
Also famous for some of the wildest seas in the U.K. be safe out there.

Fair point. However by the OP using the word “tender” I assumed go by bigger boat using small inflatable as a runaround and explore up rivers

I find judging almost impossible on my 3.5 so always carry a spare 5l plastic jerry can in the tender. It's come in useful plenty! The tendency is to over throttle as there is more power than needed to go displacement speed (although not enough to plane obviously). Over throttle and mine drinks fuel at an alarming rate for it's size. However my daughter has successfully done over 10nm on a tank without the need to refuel. I have never managed more than half that. Cant leave that throttle alone me.

Thanks all - so I hear the message of “carry spare fuel” which I currently do. I was trying see if I could lose some weight and go without the spare - sounds like I’m best to stick to original plan.

If I am going down the pub 10 mins away I don’t bother (have checked tank anyway). Any further always carry a 5l can
