Hi,
Does anyone know where I might get hold of a cover for a Suunto B116 compass? (yes, I have tried Suunto and various distributors)

I have the old damaged cover so I guess the last resort would be a 3D printer job..

Thanks

I sourced a Suunto compass cover via Arthur’s Chandlery in Gosport. It was a fair while ago though, probably a decade, and I can’t remember the process as to how it was acquired. But they are super helpful there, give them a call.

The proper compass cover is best however I found they fail quickly in our sun light. A compass cover is a must for the same reason. I made one out of old sail cloth. A square with a dish shape in it. Cut a circle in the middle about 7cms diameter and sew in a curved piece. I fixed it under the compass with screws and sewed velcro to the top and sides. Screwed velcro to the bulkhead in the right place. Compass is still good after 35 years but to be honest I seldom uncover and use it. olewilll

I worked with Ray Andrews (andrewscompass.com) recently to obtain a new B-116 black card capsule under warranty for our Suuntu compass purchased summer 2010, which is developing cracks in the dome. He also had some new covers for these, so we got a spare (our original is still intact) for 30 USD. It took a over 2 months to sort it all out, but patience paid off here for us. He also had the mounting gasket for these for around 6 USD. Price for a new/replacement capsule was about 150 USD. Maybe worth getting an extra capsule before they're gone for good to keep this Suunto bulkhead compass on the boat for a few more years.

Is the cover a simple hemisphere? If so what is the precise internal diameter of the sphere? Or does someone have photos and dimensions?

Like most our cover is fully exposed to the sunlight It started to crumble round the edges. I simply coated the exterior with resin and then gave is a coat of white epoxy paint. It has been fine ever since.
