Sunken small yacht, Newton Creek IoW

I'm sure he is a very nice chap but a freeloader and the type that, in the final analysis, will bring more legislation for the rest of us.

Yeah. It was his responsibility to sort it out promptly in some way. That hasn't happened.

....and if I'm honest, an outlandish and rather scruffy yacht is spoiling some really nice beauty spots. Maybe that's unfair - a harbour full of moorings and plastic boats isn't exactly beautiful - but that's what I think.

It’s a pretty bleak spot in a winter wet blow imo, day after week after month.

We owe it to others to not leave our trash behind, needs lifting and the rest blending in to the beauty imo

That’s my take on it too. The original sinking was pretty irresponsible, I’m surprised the NT haven’t turfed him out over it TBH

Not the first person to be unlucky and probably not the last, that's my take on it.
And I know someone will bleat on about "well if it was my boat it would have been lift asap" but they would just claim on their insurance so we all would pay for the lift not just them.

Maybe he would like to sort it out, maybe he doesn't care, but in either case, someone who winters on a small sailing boat without access to mains electricity is unlikely to have immediate access to the kind of money that you need to get a professional in to do it.

Insurance, exactly. However, if we all need to chip in to get this pile of rubbish moved, I’m ok with that. A tenner for each boat, per visit, to Newtown would sort it. The man himself too, naturally. As for unlucky, his move that led to the sinking was hopeless optimism, not bad luck. There was no way that would ever have worked in there. But most kindly souls would have given him a tow, and averted the whole disaster.

Was in NTC for a lunch stop a few days ago and you can see the yellow marker buoy for the sunken vessel (this was low tide so no mast visible), the pink boat that is moored close to it, and the BRB. As you can see it is in the entrance channel on the port side as you enter.

At first I thought the wreck was the pink boat.
Quite excusable. We are there now, his boat is more of a mess than is quite believable. So much so it’s no accident, he has clearly festooned it with as much useless debris as is physically possible. It is almost as if he’s trying to spoil it for people on purpose….. does he have an agenda here.

I feel another sinking might be in offing if any storms arise but really it’s up to national trust to sort this situation out and remove the wreck and seek to recover (which seems unlikely) this chap might next propose to rent out berths on board🤣

Of course he does.

I'm a little disappointed in the NT (but not surprised) that they can't spare any of the thousands they collect in mooring fees to legally or coercively force this guy to pick up his rubbish and clear out. But we can't have nice things.

Regardless of the wreck, we had a great day. Seals, birdlife, gentle breeze, sunshine. The NT are more than aware of him and the mess he is making, but as, technically, he’s doing nothing illegal….. We are not set up for political protests in maritime SSSIs, There is no way to remove him. And if he was indeed a harmless eccentric, why would you?

Having spoken to him I don't think he has any political agenda, despite the Palestinian flag. He does seem to be trying to raise his wreck, possibly with help from the Boatyard mooring barge. He wants to recover his dynema rigging and other stuff. Get the wreck onto a shallow beach, drain it, patch it and float off.
I suspect that will be beyond his capability so someone will have to pick up the bill.

Unless he had a legal obligation to recover the sunk boat any wreck recovery insurance won't pay out. So makes the insurance question moot.
Even then that does not relate to his ‘new’ boat. Only that he’s open to legal action to clear up the mess. I guess they’d have to go down the court order route to get him to leave. I can see they might be unwilling to do that except as a last resort.

Yeah, I'm talking about the sunk boat.
