A post said the guy got onto his kayak as his boat was sinking and just paddled off.

It was sitting at a jaunty angle with it sails up during the late afternoon low water, from a distance it looked like it had gone aground and would then float off on the flood rather than that was where it had sunk!

Horrid experience
Pulitzers and facts aside,
old King Canute went out of his way to demonstrate man’s folly at influencing, the tides I believe -didn’t he?

How can I influence a full refloation? That would be some youtube hat trick!🙉

Don't forget the young chap is, what they call in modern parlance, an "influencer".

I wonder what his following is, though. Cruising sailing is a middle aged bloke's hobby. He's over 30. So his style appears to be about appealing to my kids who really don't wanna watch a 30yo pottering about while his content is too facile to appeal to me who absolutely does want to watch him pottering about.

Anyway, it's obviously working well for him, so good luck to him.

And he swum in the Solent yesterday, which I didn't dare despite fine examples from a guy on the beach at East Head and Mrs Mark-1....

With a sea temperature of 7 degrees, I wouldn't call it a good example - certainly not one I've any intention of following

Each to their own, some people like it, some don't. I've certainly never regretted a cold water swim, but I confess I didn't fancy it on Sunday.

Others did, and good luck to them.

I posted here when his You Tube channel started and I thought he was doing a great effort in promoting the hobby (cruising) to a younger audience. He seems to have abandoned You Tube now and moved to Tik Tok etc where I feel too old to add yet another media source to my consumption!

Well I hope he was insured if he has, as the title of the you tube says, ditched his house to buy a boat.

So to save me scanning through lots of videos, can anybody please summarise
- what type of boat was it?
- how has it ended up sunk?
- are any attempts being made to re float / remove it?
Thank you.

It wasn't Ed's boat ("Sailing Optimist") that sank. He was reporting on the event.

I don’t know the type of boat, but he was an older live aboard basically living rent free in Newtown. I understand he wanted to scrub off some sort of ancillary floating shed. As he had no engine for his boat or tender, he attempted to tow the whole shooting match ashore, caught by wind and tide went aground near the entrance and got holed. The rising tide took him off again, and it sank in the fairway shortly after as we can see. Insured, unlikely. He’s lost his home, and most of his possessions with it I expect. The boat will be easy to replace with another free, tatty old semi wreck I am sure. As to the rest, hard to say. What the NT will do about it God knows. A danger to navigation, possibly a fair bit of fuel on board, plus all the flotsam his belongings have become. It’s an environmental disaster in there as well as the human tragedy.
