Sunken boat project.

Any us build boat that size has a drain plug and it was useful on my last searay . tilting it a bit back on the trailer and opening it was a very easy way to get out any water collected deep in the hull .

Needless to say there is a MUST to make sure its inserted and properly tightened before launch .

But with a bigger boat and kept afloat a bilge pump is a much better solution.
I would permanently fill and glass over the hung hole and fit an automatic bilge pump to avoid having to repeat the experience.

I've discovered the fuel tank for the diesel heater has a 28 litre capacity which seems an awful lot.


The chinaspacher heaters come with 5 litre tanks which will last a weekend.

it's unlikely that I'll spend 2 weeks onboard in the winter so I'll remove this and fit a slimline 5 litre tank which will reduce weight by around 20 kg from the stern.

Additionally, it has 2 x 110 amp batteries which weigh a lot. I may reduce these to 85 amps as long as they have a sufficient CCA rating for starting the outboard.

Lithium ion battery packs are good so I'll just take one of those in case a battery runs down.

It's a sports cruiser not a narrow boat.

I'm replacing the Webasto with a chinaspacher.

I'll probably be able to sell the old unit for spares which will cover the purchase price of the new one.....

Alternatively, I could just put 5 litres in once I've flushed the tank....

Unless you think it will be a desperate need to lose weight, I'd keep the larger tank which gives options. As mentioned just only carry 5l if you're concerned. Your job list is gonna be huge so choose your battles carefully. I use a 5l on my chinaspacher in my garage and on High, I only get a few evenings. It can be a real pain to reprime if you run it dry.

Our boat has a 50 litre or 10 gallon tank to fuel the Webasto dieasel heater, that tank is filled from the excess diesel used to cool the injectors, it goes into the heater tank and when that is full it feeds back into the main tank

I know that the effects of the dunking won’t show up for a long time....but the electrics look good

The electrical fittings don't look good nor do the cable ends. Possibly worth cutting a cable and see what it is like inside but I suspect that you will be in for a rewire to have reliable electrics.

There are several corroded wires already. The boat is just 5 years old but looking at hull fittings I can see pre existing corrosion.

There doesn't seem to be a wiring loom as such.

Baring the console area at the helm, there are only a few circuits forward of that point.

So about 50% of the wiring is in the bilge area.

I've just ordered a new diesel heater.

£1,200 from Webasto or £60 with wireless remote control from fleabay.....

I need to see what size the cables are. I don't think they are tinned as built....

I've allowed £250 for wire but that's probably an over estimate.
