Sunken boat project.

It will be a nice boat…especially with two hundred horses on the back

Once she's ready I'll mothball Zoom 3 on her trailer at home and put Zoom 4 on the mooring. It won't cost that much more for a 2 ft increase in length.

At the end of the season I'll decide to keep or sell Z4.

I don't have a twin axle trailer nor big 4WD to tow, so some limitations on my cruising area.

I'm organising an annual sports boat rally in Torquay over the late May b/holiday.

Going by sea is the only option. I've done it before in Zoom 1 ( a Saver 690). 200 litres used to get there but a great adventure!
 
Couple of observations
Looking at the age of that boat ie. pretty newish, highly unlikely to be any deterioration in hull or its fittings ie bilge drain/bung . ???
Either nobody was keeping an eye on boats in that marina ( the staff) and spotted a very gradual alteration in trim or was it sudden catastrophic event and it went down in an hour or two between marina walkrounds.
Call only recall a removable "drain bung" being found in small speedboats and craft likely to be removed from the water, never in something of that size where any bung to work properly would be under water 90% of the time.
A 23ft Regal had the misfortune to own of about that size certainly lacked any drain plug(s) and bilge only emptied via a bilge pump.

It has a bung but I don't know the circumstances on how it came out.

I put a new O ring in it. PTFE tape and sikaflex around the fitting before she was launched at Hamble point.

She's still floating!

Retrieving/ towing her up the Hamble was interesting.

It was neap tides but a strong SW blowing up.

My brother was on Zoom 3 , I passed a line so we could pull Zoom 4 off the trailer.

We then needed to rig Z4 alongside Z3 .

It was tricky!

We had a near miss with a mooring pile but managed to shorten the line in time.

Then we headed upwind to clear water where the plan was to rig for the trip.

Wind was so strong we decided to keep Z4 stern forward.

We did 3 knots and steering was remarkably good for a 17ft wide vessel.

With hindsight, a lift on a crane would have been the better option...

I'm at an MDL marina on the Hamble and whilst I see them do regular walkround checks, I'd say it's once or twice a day if that.

I've often pointed out fenders & lines in the water, loose warps, banging halyards & safety equipment slipped to them so not even sure eyes scan the boats when they walk the pontoons.
 
To be honest…I thought that the drain plug was supposed to on trailerable inboards…not outboards.
You are supposed to put the drain plug somewhere visible…because in the stress of launching it can be forgotten…say your boat’s key ring

This one is a retained version so can't be lost. But it has to be tightened!
 
Next time the boat is out of the water i would permanently fill the drain hole.

It's effectively plugged now.

Once I know about the internals and bilge layout I can make a decision.

It has an electric and manual pump.

I have no documentation yet, all being sent to me this week.

I don't even know where the batteries are!

(Because I'm focussing on damp removal first).

As a side note, the foam and cushion covers are drying nicely, dehumidifier stopped as it was full...

Are you going to remove all the linings?

They look screwed in place which is handy

If its got a self draining sink, id leave the dehumidifier in continuous with a hose for a good few weeks

Any us build boat that size has a drain plug and it was useful on my last searay . tilting it a bit back on the trailer and opening it was a very easy way to get out any water collected deep in the hull .

Needless to say there is a MUST to make sure its inserted and properly tightened before launch .
