Asuming the banks get their act together the corsair will go straight in for her re-fit with.....on second thoughts better not say........ next week

For those planning to do a similar daft adventure one day this is what she's having done.

Stern gantry for new solar panels ( or "Sun-suckers" as Nicola has called them, she's convinced thats correct)

New rudder, old one has some lovely blisters

New standing rigging

Some running rigging

heavy duty fridge

Wind generator

extra batteries

holding tanks

minor survey bits (very, she was an exceptionally well cared for boat)

SSb and Iridium installation

Forward looking sonar

anti fouling etc (any tips for best product for carribean?)

Can anyone advise on the best downwind rig for the corsair, she has a cruising shute and inner forstay. We were thinking of recutting the spare genoa and hanking
it on then pole it out. Very green here so advice much appreciated.

Cheers Rog,

4 hours isn't much of a sulk is it? Would have come back anyway I think..too many nice people here.

Fati...Fatep... oh you know who I mean, can't see the spelling from the post screen.
Thanks for the downwind info, did you find that ok? Any points to watch? Nice humane way of killing fish. Is that where we get "I drink like a fish"

Happy Easter all

Just got my Bluewater insurance quote. Funny, that has really made me feel like it's really happening now.

Re: short sulk, and sun

I think that we're all allowed to sulk for 4 hours now and again. Unlike Ted heath who has managed a record 3+ decades.

Suggest need good protection with hats (the Tilley works well if adjusted properly, get a white one so u can see it if it drop in ever) and of course enough repairing things for bimini and enough extenders etc for strong sun dipping stright down behind or in front. Garlic capsules worked well with sleeping on deck in warm caribbe and (me) not gettig eaten at expense of everyone else.

Re: short sulk, and sun

you eat the garlic capsules for a few days before and the midgies hate the taste of your skin.

use a wooden gun with silver bullets for the vampires which are very common in caribbee.

oh, and since it's near the equator, it gets dark quick, no evenings. Need some way of getting a light up on deck. Candles and/ or a 12v plug-in light like the ones on the sunsail boat quite good. Decklights from mast etc no good cos the bimini's up see...

mosquitoes

As a regular Antigua visitor I can tell you that the only way to keep the mosquitoes off is to drink rum, get the balance between sweating it and getting drunk right and it works a treat, plus you can get citronela candles everywhere out there, they work well in the evenings, if you do get bitten it is possible to buy over the counter anti-biotic cream, spot on stuff. I'll be there for raceweek again, if your still monitoring the forum in May I'll let you know if there is anything new woth knowing about.

The thing about men and fish is one is always trying to eat the other.

Invest in a second spinnaker pole and gear so that you don't have to use the main boom to pole out a second headsail. Any suitably sized sail (No 2 Genoa ?) opposite the furling one will give you a great well ballanced rig downwind. Did it for 16 days across the pond a couple of years back. If you don't like the noise of the wind generator get one that converts to a towed generator, no noise and lots of power down wind when the wind generator does very little (Low apparent wind and all that). Enjoy the life.
