I appreciate this is like estimating the length of a piece of elastic but what are the predictions for this summer for the south of UK?

'Tis going to be cr4p!

Previous summer I sailed about 4 times due to weather. Last year my boat was out on the hard standing all year, fantastic summer. This year is going back in so the weather will be rubbish.

I can with 100% confidence predict that it will be warmer than it is now, 78% that it won't snow.

I can gtee that the weather when I want to go sailing will be rubbish.

I've just come home from visiting Granny. Granny is 85, has a full beard and has lived on the south coast of England all her life and has never been abroad. I happened to ask her how the season would be this year and she said...

"Snow for February, March colder, it's going to be a rotten year for fruit, rubbish prospects for venison, keep everything in the greenhouse 'til May be out..."

I coughed gently, took another pull on my glass of rose hip and dandelion wine then I asked her how the weather would be for sailing this Summer (her husband was a mariner) and she said...

"Don't go to sea 'til June be upon thee."

I then coughed louder, put my glass down and rose to my full height before her.

"Granny, for f's sake - is it going to be good sailing this year, Yes or No?"

She looked into the log fire burning fretfully in the grate then she passed her eyes around the glow of the room, the orange glare illuminating the pictures of old schooners, O-Class Submarines, and myriad small vessels that had been sailed by sailors she had raised herself in this paltry yet secure old hovel of a home. Then she lifted those rumy old eyes to mine at last and said...

"How the "f" should I know. Just get out there and remember your oil skins. D'ya want to sail that boat or not?" she replied, and went back to Eastenders.
