stupid question

i was out on the boat today thinking why does my engins need servicing every 100 hours

when at cruising speed of 25/30 Knts that is a diatanceof about 3000 miles

where a van or lorry only needs a service every 10000/18000 miles

so are we being ripped off

I think time is more important than hours. Dont think you need a service every week cos ou did alot of milage that week.

You could change oil and filter yourself,which is easy and cheap and by examining the oil can identify a problem before it gets serious.Some people don,t realise that by changing oil regulary your engine can last twice as long because you are taking away minute shards of metal that can wear pistons and bearings.
