No don't expect you've got any for the engines, but if you've got a sea toilet you'll have them.

I too read C_Js post with interest and do I take it that I should open and close my seacocks as regularly as possible to keep them from seizing?

I have found that I need to clean my raw water strainers once in a while and this involves closing the seacocks hence they get used occasionally, do you not have a similar set up

FWIW I open and close my seacocks every time I use the boat. Have seen several boats sink cos the seacocks were left open all the time and either corroded or hose failed. I suppose this has the added benefit of making sure they don't seize. However I do know lots of people who do leave them open without any problems, but why tempt fate? It only takes a few seconds and has become a routine along with turning off power, gas etc.

Thank you

Once again I learn a lot from the wise owls of the forum.

Yes I know of another boat where they had a problem with the hose, thort they'd shut the seacock only to find that it had barnacles in it and wouldn't shut completely, boat didn't sink but a quick lift was needed! And you're right, the wheels can and do disintegrate but are easily replaced! Only took a few minutes last time I had to do it.

Swans

Saw 2 Swan 49s in QAB in Plymouth yesterday, they really did look magnificent. Almost made me want to go sailing. I'll now go and wash my typing fingers with sulphuric acid!

Your engine setup has no seacocks as water is sucked up through leg, not through a skin fitting. If you have a portapotti, you wont have seacocks for that either.

Re: ah yes but

some of those inlets are a bit big innit. I've not seen tapered wooden bungs more than a couple of inches diameter. Do they exist? Or do i have to make my own?

Re: ah yes but

Forget the wooden bung and go for the tree, keep one growing on board as a centerpiece, with a chainsaw tied to it!

Re: ah yes but

Think it must be the daily dose of Solly, talking of which you still haven't told us how your brew in the dark is getting on. Have a peep and take a piccie, I bet there's no difference, but would like to be proved wrong.
