Stuck starter motor

I have removed the bolts holding my starter motor (on Bukh DV10) to the engine block, but the starter refuses to budge. The two mating surfaces have been in contact for so long that they have no desire to be separated. How can I persuade them to let go without damaging the starter motor?

Regards,

Mick

with the bolts in but loose, whack the starter motor on the side with a copper or hide mallet, this should release it! Dont go daft, just a gentleish whack! Or undo the bolts a little and then turn the engine over with the starter, this might help to loosen it, don't let the engine start. A bit of localised heat would also help. Failing that, soak flanges with "plus gas" or similar and try above again. Be careful with the flange on the motor, they are normally alloy of some type.

hi mick, long time no hear.. you need to update yer site dude!!.

the thing has grown on, you need to "beat" it off, gently of course.

the ally spigot has reacted with the cast bell housing, soak with rust eater (phosphoric acid) then keep moving it with a pry bar/nail bar it will take agas but it will go in the end. whats up with it? 'cos you can strip it and it'll probably only need cleaning/de rusting, and it'll work again.

hope you've sold that bloody tug! by the way still looking for old crappy boats to "do up" just in case you hear of any /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

regards, steve.
