Hi
Has anyone got any experience in stripe tape removal I need to remove a silver / chrome stripe down both sides of my yacht, the tape is set in a half round grove and has been badly affected by the sun.

gas burner (held well away from the hull!) just sufficent to warm the stripe - and then it will peel off okay. Seems scary but actually it's easy.

Agree with the hairdrier solution - much safer & works a treat.

Well I dry my hair with a hot air gun! But I certainly agree that you shouldn't get it too hot. I would not use a flame - on hair or hull.

I tried a gas gun once. It is very difficult and (trust me) singes the hull..... long story. I would now only use a hairdryer, or do it on a hot summer day waiting for the tide, when the sun will do the job for you.

Hairdrier or warm air gun on alow setting -gas gun wwoohhhow too scary. as for being in a groove I would be inclined to make a scraper same radius as the groove to clear out the softened stripe.

When I removed my on-hull stripes I found the best tool was a Black & Decker hot air gun sold for paint stripping.
The hand-held drier was too feeble and insufficiently directional.

You need to keep a steady tension on the tape and play the hot air on the removal V, which then comes off in a continuous, gentle movement.

The only difficult ones were the waterline ones where, after softening, a triangular scraper had to be used.

After the initial trials taking off 45m of tape only took about 20"
