well its a term used by a few folk I know who own pretty capable boats.. this takes the moto that bit further

Seems a bit unfair that the driver and navigator each get a hydraulic damped chair with a multi-point racing harness as worn by Sebastian Vettel whereas a couple of the passengers get fold-up director's chairs as used by Woody Allen and a tartan rug to go over their knees. ;)
 
Yes Nelson's are proper go anywhere in any weather motor cruisers. Built to take the sea, strong as oxen. Effectively a pilot boat design.

Those are for the outlaws in order to discourage them from ever asking to come on your boat again:)

I guess those seats were retrofitted, surely?
Can't believe that Nelson, if asked to build a boat with lifeboat-style seats, doesn't make also the rest of the helm station consistent.
Being in a sea condition requiring safety belts, and have to handle the boat with that type of wheel, struggling to reach the throttle and without being able to reach the instruments, that must be a frustrating experience indeed...
