Good morning all, and Happy New Year,

Been a while since I posted. Busy moving the Weather Centre and building the new web site. Back now though.

I know that most of you will already be aware of the low that is coming through Monday. Latest forecast now brings the low just south of the Midlands. There seems to be more curvature in the isobars and this is good news as it may slow the winds down a touch.

However, it will be dangerous to be sailing on Monday. Winds will gust to 60kt, mean speeds will be F8 or F9 and seas will be very rough.

Best wishes for now,
Simon

Best to sit and watch this one go by, could be very, very vicous.

Sounds like an invite to Jimi, from what I've seen here so far. Let's hope, for his dodger's sake, that he's got some work to do /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Thank you very much; "She" being ashore, I will check the covers and dog shores (all cross braced!) this afternoon.

I am in some ways more scared of a storm with the boat ashore, than when she is on her mooring, which is in a sheltered river with muddy banks in every direction.

No, Jimi, you don't get it - I was JOKING! I presume - for your dodger's sake - you have changed your plans now.

BTW, I have noted that the QM2 has a higher freeboard than your average Beneteau - and a distinct absence of dodgers - so she'll probably cope just fine. They also have enough reserve crew for the bridge to enable the skipper to sleep without the rest of the crew noticing. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Just heard the French 8pm news. After a relative calm tonight, they are forecasting F10 tomorrow all along the N Coast of France.

Can some of the experts

explain why this low is deepening ?

I went through the different charts in FNMOC site and found that
1.there is no positive vorticity advection
2.the low is on the right front quadrant of the jet stream, a zone where convergence aloft is taking place
3.the low is only mildly baroclinic

all reasons against low deepening

so why does it deepen ? 10mb in the last few hours..

thanks
