I just purchased a 1997 Larson Cabrio 310 with twin 350 Volvo Penta. The throttle and shifters are in the same control. My problem is that the controls are very stiff to engage either the throttle or shifter. My marine mechanic checked out where the cables come out in the outdrives and said the cables were fine. I rigged a device to try to squirt transmission fluid down inside the cables, but even this did not loosen the cables. When I checked the run of the cables from the shifters and down to the engines and outdrive, there were no sharp bends at all. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what I can do to loosen the controls.

If you disconect the cable at the throttle and gearbox, which should be a elative simple matter of unclipping, then try your control lever again, that should show whether the problem over here is in the cable or gearbox or throttle.

Sounds as though you may be across the pond, so I know nothing of your spares situation, but over here ASAP in Suffolk are one of the cheapest for ew cables. Just make sure you get the correct length.

I had identical symptoms (on a smaller scale installation): both cable and gearchange were easy to move but the combination was stiff. In the end I found the cable was lifting out of its restraint on the control lever mechanism when I operated it, partly because the cable was too long and lay awkwardly. The Morse control lever has a metal prong that engages the outer of the cable, but no positive means of clamping it in place.
