Sterling Battery Charger

Sterling's Pro Budget range are excellent value for money, but they are not as flexible as the multi output range - well that would be silly at 1/3 of the price wouldn't it?

I bought a couple for my non-PC type of batteries and they didn't quite work as I had hoped - even though they worked reasonably well. Now I have one of the "proper" range - haven't tried it yet.

Throughout both Charles and his staff have been most helpful. You do have to catch them on a good day and it helps if you have a slight knowledge of why multi stage chargers are required; always be humble (not grovelling) and polite.

Ah, yes, the yellow light does stay on for ages, and will do so until the battery reaches its design voltage, then the unit drops into float mode.

Re: Have you...

I'm on my second sterling charger. The first one stopped after about 3 years considerble use - eg on all the time when wintering aboard three winters in a row. They gave me good discount on a new one when couldnet repair old one. Certainly their instruction sheets are rather amateur in terms of layout and presentation - but all the information you need is there if you read it carefully. I too have found some of their phone manners a little brusque, and a little impatient of customer ignorance...but again you do get the help you need in the end - and they are cheaper than many(all) competitors.

Re: Have you...

I have had a sterling 30 amp charger for at least 5 years. been totally reliable and a generally good bit of kit. have spoken to sterling for tech help and found them Ok but not inclined to "suffer (technical) fools gladly".

dont mean to be rude in saying this, but they seem to join in with one or two other manufacturers (Sillette anyopne?) in not hiding a degree of contempt for those they think cant tell an amp from a volt. not good service really.

Dredging up an old post, but............

An old guy on a boat has asked me to try to fix his Sterling Pro Budget 20A Automatic Digital Battery Charger.
It does put out volts at 13.8v but the display indicates "equalisation" mode all the time and the light stays yellow, never goes green no matter how long it is left on.
There is nothing obviously burnt or damaged inside.
Anyone with any ideas or any service info or circuit diagrams for this item please?
