We use a cheap inflatable led solar powered lamp, they cost about a tenner, you leave them put all day to charge and they last all night. Very safe very bright and fold down to nothing

I have a large Garden Solar LED light as back up ....

On the subject of Solar LED lights ... I found that the Garden lights - the spike fits winch sockets .... so when having a cockpit 'do' - you can have lights in the winches as party lights !!
It also fits the handle slot in my anchor windlass as an ID light when returning to boat at night ...
I have a Golf Cart umbrella tube clamped on Pushpit .. that is used for fishing rod or Solar LED Lamp ...

Some people need to visit SpecSavers other, and some would argue better, opticians are available,
Anchor light at the top of the mast is not easy to see. It can get confused with street lights and stars as I found out entering Cawsand one night. An anchor light at lower level would have shown up. There were 3 of us on board experienced with night sailing and our eyesight was good !

I use an led light in the fore triangle, hoisted to just over head height. Goes on & off with a light sensor kit. Plugged into a 12v outside socket.

I agree about being low down.
I use a battery powered LED all round torch tied some way up the fore stay. It swings about which also seems to help . It also part lights the white deck.

I went around my boat in the dinghy tonight and I have to admit that the combination of steaming light and stern light is confusing at times. At the next chandlery I will get a proper 360 degrees anchorlight.
