The anchorlight up my mast stopped working and until I fix it I am using the steaming light together with the stern light. I figured 225 + 135 = 360. Does this comply with the rules?

No it does not. Honest answer.

Why not ?

The two lights are not in same height / position on the boat ... if you were to be in another boat and to go around your boat - you would note the lights would be seen and then not seen as you move ...

The Anchr light is a single 360 and will be seen all time you move round it ..

BUT - its better than no light !

Would it not give the impression of a vessel moving forward ( actually stationary & stemming a tide etc., even though under power) but not showing port or stbd light? Another vessel might assume that light to be temporarily obscured in some way.
Would it not be possible to use any deck lights that may be set up on the mast? A lot of steaming lights have one integral to the design. It would light up the craft. Mine does & being LED does not use too much power.

Thank you for the answers. I understand and will fix the anchorlight as soon as possible. Or add another one.

Its a strange one as larger vessels would show two anchor lights - but vertically displaced opposite to steaming lights config ... ie stern anchor light lower than fwd.
But a small vessel as OP's would not have this option .. and would be confusing.

Many years ago ... there was an unofficial convention of switching off sidelights when "underway but not making way" ... but this is NOT official and anyway long gone into history ... thankfully.

Given the advent of LED and excellent camping lights .... I have a battery powered LED lantern designed for hanging in a tent ... I bought for hanging of the boom over cockpit .... THAT light even though not as bright as an anchor light would do a reasonable job ... hung of the forestay or flag halyard.

I refer you to post #4 and subsequent comments on this thread Reliable Auto Anchor Light

My totally autonomous anchor light was bought in about 2009. I put it up in April and take it down in October. It switches itself on at night, off in the morning and charges itself using a built in small solar panel in daytime. I bought a spare a few years later in case it failed but it remains unused. Perhaps the best yachting kit I have ever bought. Looking its age now but still working well.Screenshot_20241005_120251.jpg

If you are going for something temporary, why not get an anchor light, wire it up to a lead, plug into your ciggy lighter outlet and hoist it?
Then when you have time, wire it permanently.

Masthead is often the worst place for an anchor light - way out of line of sight for boats manoevering around an anchorage.
We have very much noticed this in Greece this year. The explosion in numbers of larger yachts, 60 ft and more, has placed masthead lights to heights that strain the neck. It is very often difficult to tell whether one is looking at a light or a star.

Dont regulations specify the placement of anchour lights and daylight shapes?
