After about 1.5 hours of motoring at 5 knots last week ( the longest I've done this year) I noticed some steam starting to come from the exhaust, not much but just enought to notice it. I don't have a temp gage so don't know how hot the engine was. My high temp warning light did not come on but I don't know if it would as it never has done so other that when the ignition is on but the engine is not running. So my 1st question is, is it normal after motoring a while for there to be some steam from the exhaust. the air temp at the time was only about 10-12 degrees celcius would this contribute to it. and 2nd question how hot should my engine get, should I be able to touch it when running after a period of say 1.5hrs?
(engine is a Yanmar YSB8)

Hi
The exhaust from the outlet port rises above the height of the cylinder and this is not cooled and does get hot. The injection point for the water is into the bronze casting and this also get hot but not a hot as the riser. As long as there is plenty water mixed with the water vapour then you should be ok, you should be able to touch the block in normal conditions. A wise move would be to check the impellor on the waterpump .
