I have a bronze (I think) skin fitting for engine cooling water.
I have attached a new bronze ball valve. I can't get a bronze tail to fit my size hose (long story), so the shipwright made me a stainless steel tail.
Is it OK to have a stainless tail in a bronze valve? There is conflicting advice regarding the two metals in contact, corrosion, the use of a plastic tail as an alternative...
Thanks.

You can easily get a bronze tail from <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.asap-supplies.com>http://www.asap-supplies.com</A>
I would not consider a SS tail on a bronze system

as like as not, your prop is bronze and your prop shaft is stainless. you dont see much problem with that combination do you? quite likely the ball in your valve is stainless too.
personally, i would go for the plastic since that is really inert, but then i would go for re-inforced nylon seacocks anyway. second choice for me is bronze and stainless last

Make quite sure you are talking phosphor-bronze, silicon bronze or AB2; NOT manganese bronze, 'commercial' bronze or one of the other varieties with a high zinc element. The stainless steel must be marine (ideally 316) grade. If you ensure this then the bronze and stainless will not interact with one another. However, inferior stainless, or stainless welds used in this application are in any case liable to suffer from crevice corrosion, and would need to be carefully monitored. Pity you couldn't get all bronze!
