Does anyone know anything about these boats - I'am thinking of getting a Mirage 28 but wondered how these two compare - my only info is from one picture and someone who used to sail on it when a bit younger.

Regards

The Stag was designed bt Peter Milne as a fast well built cruiser. If my memory serves me they were all built as shoal draft cruisers with lifting keels. The Mirage was designed as a fast ( for its time ) cruiser by David Feltham who also designed boats like the Seawolf range and the Cobras. The Mirage had a fixed, shallow, semi long keel and was a viable alternative to the Westerly Centaur , being that bit bigger and offering better performance. I think some were home completed so beware.

There was a review in one of the mags about 6 months ago,
either pbo or sailing today, I cant rember which

I owned a Stag 28 for 10 years. She was a lift keel, a good strong family boat which we also raced in club events. Bit frustrating performance up wind but with a good strong breeze she used to go pretty well on a reach and downwind with the spin. up. Lost several fingers in the lift keel mechanism!! Went across to Holland several times. The lift keel made her ideal for the east coast. I like the layout below with large head, good size chart table. Galley stretched down the port side was a bit of a drawback.Would sleep five ok but four was ideal. Good trad finish which made her seem very cosy. Huge amount of locker space. Hope this helps!!

thanks for the info - I've got a Jaguar 22 with a swing keel but would rather have fixed keels - keep worring that it might fall off !
