I have a problem with my gas oven.
The burner runs from front to rear and is centered at the bottom of the oven. Whenever I put something in there, it inevitably burns the bottom of whatever I'm cooking as the gas burner is directly under the dish. If I fit a solid tray over the burner to try and spread the heat, the dish takes ages to heat since most of the heat is trapped under the tray.

Anyone else got the same problem - better still, anyone got a solution!

i saw a solution on my dad's friends boat
it was metal sheet above the burner that was perforated at the sides of the burner falme so heat was spread to side and up. I think it was aluminium sheeting
it was home job anyway and the holes were the width of your little finger tip .

Sounds like the sort of "flame spreader" device made of mesh and asbestos you can occaisionally see in chandlers/hardwareshops/caravan supplies. (You may remember them from chemistry and bunsen burners at school). They do the job of transforming an uneven flame into an even heat source a treat.
