Hi Paul
I believe you are moored VERY close to us
Take a walk over to H21.
There's an example of Paul's (and his team at Dolphin) work
....which we highly recommend

If you don't already have one, you might take this opportunity to consider adding a grabrail to the sprayhood.

Was looking at a nearby boat with one fitted, looks like a good idea. I often find myself holding the edge of the sprayhood, which wouldn't work too well in any sort of a sea.

Dolphin added 1 to mine @ a very reasonable cost.
First off we kept banging our heads on it transiting the hatch, then 1 day s/handing down the Wallet i lent forward to grab it & damn nearly fell down the open hatch. I had folded down the hood earlier & forgot. Its surprising how one gets quickly used to using the grab rail :o

One sails @ Levington just made a new one for me.

We spent a long time discussing how best to arrange grab's etc and the conclusion we came to for my use was 'soft' (rubber/fabric) grab points on the forward part of the hood and 'cutaways' on the rear. I was uncertain about what kind of trip hazard a solid grabrail would pose when the hood was folded forward. It's still on the boat on (Seaspray/H7) if you want to take a look.

Actually, i get a decent view of it from the port side :)

I did wander around for a closer look though. The workmanship looks very good. The grab rail across the back edge would work well for my layout. I have a set of substantial "granny bars" at the sides.

Thanks, i had a look, as with dennys, the workmanship looks very good. The grab handles are definitely a good idea. I have some hefty side ones and a pair leading down to the companionway, but could do with something across the back. I think a fixed bar would suit mine best, but i'll have a careful look and think, those rubber/fabric ones forward could be a worthwhile addition.

Thanks to everyone who replied, i'll get some quotes from the recommended suppliers after Christmas.

Some food for thought about the grab handles. I think a fixed rail at the back and some "soft" handles forward may be a good solution for me. My forward visibility is extremely poor, not just because the transparent sections are knackered, but because they are far too small, so a redesign is required. I think i need to make it a bit longer too and raise the rear edge if i can, with a view to adding a cockpit enclosure at some point.

If you're serious about a cockpit enclosure in the next year or two, it would be best to get the sprayhood designed with the appropriate fastenings/zips/etc built in. Loose-fitting cockpit enclosures can cause bad chafing to ordinary sprayhoods.

Will do, i'm considering a small arch over the aft end of the cockpit to reorganise my solar panels and will try and design the sprayhood and arch with an enclosure in mind. Might even have the whole thing done at once, depending on cost.

I specified extra triangular windows in my sprayhood, and this has enhanced visibility. Not a good photo, I'm afraid, but you can just see the extra window.

If i'm extending the sprayhood aft, that could be a good idea.
