. . .If you ever see us coming towards you with it up then I would advise you to get out of the way since the chances are we can't see you

You really ought to get one of these nifty new sprayhoods with clear panels in the front - you can then keep your sprayhood up and see where you are going . . . whatever will they think of next?

They spoil the line of the boat so I don’t like them and haven't got one.
If I had anything of the like, it would be a Doghouse and/or a Bimini.

I keep my sprayhood up most of the time. When I was wee baby, my dear old Mum pushed me around in one of those old prams with a massive "sprayhood" - sadly she was from the old school that had her believed little 'uns should get all the fresh air they could (and rain/wind too). I think this must have been 'burned' into my little brain at the time, and it's stuck with me. Must have made me soft!

I fitted a sprayhood three years ago and the only use it gets is at anchor to keep the weather
clear of the main hatch, cannot abide sailing with it raised, like to have a unblemished view of the surroundings.
Will not be replacing it when it gives up the ghost.

Err…… Obvious point, but I keep mine down unless there is a lot of spray coming over into the cockpit, hence sprayhood I suppose, can’t see what advantage there is in having it up other than that.

Dodgers are an odd idea, but I do get the feeling they are less common than they were a few years back .

Re: verdict...

wind in the hair is good - for an hour or so. For a long day sail I'll settle for my spray hood up thanks.

what about those of us with fixed half lids? It's jolly useful, protecting from breaking waves over the bow, due to hull shape, but being short, I do have to put my head over the parapet to see, when the windscreen wiper wont clear the windscreen well enough. Overall, I like the lid - and it makes the boat look quaint.
