I'm about to order some parts and want to add various split pins to take the value above the free postage level. Does anyone know the typical sizes for the rigging on an 11m yacht (Starlight 35)?

I find I use 1/8" more than anything else.
3mm will go though an 1/8 inch hole, but 1/8 inch will not go through 3mm. Some of my rigging took 1/8 inch split pins, but some would only take 3mm. I would either get 3mm or buy an assortment, but if you don't have the monel wire, buy that.

Seizing wire is for seizing, it isn't a replacement for the right sized split pin.
Why not? honest question. The advantages IMHO: it's always the right size, it's easy to hide the ends and never have a sharp edge sticking out; it's easier to rig when pottering around at 15m up .

The OP mentioned split pins for rigging, which I assumed is for clevis pins, something like this:

Using seizing wire through the hole doesn't give as much metal to metal bearing as the correct split pin. The wire will soon wear through with the slight movement of the rigging. It's a different situation to your two examples where seizing wire is OK.

After a series of trial and error purchases I just bought a pack of 3.2 by 20..pins from Amazon incl delivery about 5quid for 20.

These are for 13mm Selden clevis pins on 35 footer

My conclusion is that each manufacturer measures theirs slightly differently...

I have a plastic jar for each type of item. Screw top jars that catering amounts of spices or herbs come in.

(You don't want to drop a glass coffee jar full of split pins.)

No help to the OP but I pop in when I see someone having a "garage sale". I have loads of split pins and spring washers. For pennies.

....but haven’t you got a problem knowing whether they are A4 (316) stainless steel - if they are for marine use?
