Or forever hold your peace.

I have decided on buying a Furuno 1623 radar.

Seems to do what I want at a good price.

Does anyone know of a catch or problem with the thing, or any good reason not to buy it while I am still plucking up courage to sign the cheque.

Furuno good gear. Koden better. JRC best.

Sure you have made up your mind ?? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Make sure the drain hole stays clear , susceptible to moisture condensation inside ( as are others ) but otherwise fine , a freind on the South coast hasn't had any other problems

Had one on my previous boat, v well screed together, nice and easy and logical to use,
Had several other bits as well (ie the GPS etc)

BUT, I dont think its as good as the Raytheon I had before or the one I have now, I never felt that it had as narrow a beam width, and didnt seem to give as good a picture.

Didnt like to rely on it as much for spotting a smaller target, but still I was quite pleased and thought it was a good bit of kit. Very good value for money, and very logical and easy to use.

Used to have one. Replaced it with Raymarine. Worked well. Only replaced it because I wanted to have chart overlay. It used to be mounted outside by the companionway so consequently it was often connected/disconnected and put down below for safe keeping. I found the connection terminals became brittle over time and broke off. Not a problem if you leave it permanently fixed.

Finally decided on the JRC 1500

Ordered from Redcar Fish Co @ £865 which seems a good price to me.

Just sitting quietly in a darkened room now with a towel round my head.

Spending that much money is always a strain.

Thanks for the help.
