They're stunning pictures, but I don't quite see how that relates to whether manned spaceflight is worth the money or not.

I read a report earlier in the week about the danger faced by the spacewalker in trying to make the essential repair - basically it said that there was a very high risk of failure and (his) death because certain aspects of the repair were outside the "knowledgescope" of the project team - in other words he was "winging-it."

It's great that mankind is still involved in this type of pioneering adventure - not so great that back here in the real (?) world, window cleaners cant go up ladders due to HSE legislation. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yeah Doris, we might've wasted all that dough and brainpower on a project such as greening the desert, and never had the pretty space pics.

The question about what governments should spend money on is always impossible. You just can't equate the value of such different things. But these photographs must inspire many.

Anyway it's definitely better than spending the money on new ways of blowing each other up.
