Southerly 32

Having pawed over several in build I came to the conclusion that whilst very well built they were in real terms little more than a day or weekend sailor by todays standards and wondered where the market for them was, not my cup of tea I am afraid.

Having seen a couple, they are well built and certainly capable of crossing oceans. I quite like the idea of sailing one from the Solent and at the end of my journey parking it on the beach in the Caribbean. I think Feeling and Ovni are slightly better value for money and I'd go down the Ovni route if I were in the market for an ocean capable lift keeler (just my personal opinion)

My point about being a day sailor was aimed at the available space etc not it's seaworthiness,

Sorry but find this a strange comment - this boat probably has the largest volume of a good sailing 32 footer cruiser in production today. So are boats with smaller internal volumes just day sailors too such as Vancouver 32, Contessa 32, Oceanis 321 etc :confused:

Personally I think the boat is extremely clever especially if you have a mooring that can only take a 32/33 foot tidal boat or to reduce Marina costs by having lots of space per length or the option of a cheaper semi-tidal marina berth.

Each to his own, I just could not see myself spending any amount of time on it, particularly as I am an untidy ba*tard it lacks storage etc and is a little cramped around the saloon table the "aft cabin" is a bit of a mismoner more a kennel. This is no criticism of the boat or the range as I said they are very well screwed together.

As for the boats you name I have sailed 2 of them and been on one for weeks and the useable internal volume of that was significantly greater, I will leave you to guess which:rolleyes::D
