I'll second jezbank's suggestion about parking in the West Quay carpark which is just a few mins from the main entrance. Never had a prob finding space. You can even keep the SWMBO happy by walking through John Lewis on the way there; just put a pair of blinkers on her and keep her walking otherwise you won't actually get to the show
However the best way to get to the show is by motorbike. Dump it on the pavement outside the show entrance next to the Red Funnel and go straight in

Whats wrong with Park & Ride ?

Because I drive straight to venue, wander into mall and buy sandwich lunch from M&S and when I have finished at the show, I don't have to lug the useless mooring stick and fender socks I bought, plus the half a ton of brochures on to that smelly double decker which sits there for half an hour before chugging off through rush hour traffic to some god forsaken field.

Meanwhile, I am enjoying a relaxed and reasonably cheap supper in the mall, waiting for the traffic to die down and the car park to empty, before joining the motorway for the haul back North.

Good advice Major.
Will be My first visit to the Show.
Thanks.
Seems Your Military Training/ Planning skills are still in evidence!
Precision planning, target the the Area to be recced, ( reccied, or whatever it's called) attack ,leave before the suspects have noticed You were even there and retire for sustinence before Mustering for the hop back to Base.
Nice. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's called withdrawing to a LUP (Laying up point) until the enemy sweep has passed by.

So, I here you are bringing 'foreigners' with you.

Anyone recommend good hotels near the boat show? Popping down with partner to make a weekend of it and check out marinas etc don't want a hassle of taking ages to get from hotel to boat show and also can parking be prebooked as want to park near? Cheers

The De Vere is the best hotel in Southampton and right on the entrance but very expensive. The Holiday Inn is actually in the show site but it is probably fully booked for next year let alone this year. Bit of a hike but the Ibis and Novotel are probably your best bet.
