Has anyone fitted a chain counter to a South Pacific Vertical Windlass?

So update on this one...
This does not apper to be documented anywhere on the Internet, so I thought I'd post it to help someone in the future.
There is a little hole in the heat sink that just fits the transducer (sensor) for a chain counter. Just slide it in and push it home.

Then just expoxy putty the little magnet to the underside of the gypsy and off you go...

Mine worked first time.

This is the chain counter I used:

Good lord, did I read the price correctly, £181.37 worth of beer tokens . I'll stick to me wee bits of cloth tied to the chain and a bit of paint just before the anchor.

I paid a bit less than that,
But when you are dropping the anchor from cockpit single handed counting bits of cloth (that can foul the windlass) can be a bit difficult 😀.

You should be able to count the seconds, 0ne thousand, two thousand (or whatever) and relate that to a length deployed. The specification of your windlass will define the deployment rate. Its crude but there again its an anchor - you don't need the deployment to the nearest metre. If you have a poor memory or variable crew write it in the lid of the anchor locker (where you already have the crib sheet for the anchor chain marks, ribbons, paint marks, cable ties).
