Wanting to move my boat from Norfolk to south coast, however after enquiring about various moorings they seem very expensive. Are there any more reasonable moorings out there? Currently paying about 3k and am not expecting to pay this but somewhere nearer to this figure rather than 7k would be nice. Any ideas?

Try the upper Hamble marinas , cabin boatyard , Foulkes and sons , Eastlands

Have you considered the Isle of Wight. Plenty of cheap mornings on the river medina if you don’t mind not being walk ashore run by Newport harbour master . They even have their own yacht club called MMA

If the island is a wightlink trip too far look at mooring in say Thorney creek in Chichester harbour. Slight risk of the mooring being blown ashore at Prinsted in winter weather but great for summer if you like a degree of isolation. Otherwise Thorney marina if your depth permits . Also cheaper up Fareham creek or Hardway if your not too large of course. Closer to the harbour mouth Chris at Gosport boatyard do buoys with great views of the new carriers and spinnaker tower. I gather cheap rates for service types at Hornet should you have a service background but seems hard to get in I think but maybe other forumites know more of hornet marina .

We moved from the east coast around ten years ago, we are now moored on the Isle of Wight ,prices similar to MDL on the Orwell , having visited a lot of the south coast marinas ,we prefere the Island, ferrys can be a pain peak summer, but we tend to use the fast jet now and leave car on main land 5 min walk to boat, ,lots of the marinas around the south coast are some distance from the Solent, can also have a lock to contend with, all adds to the time and cost to get out into open water, and back on your berth especially on a Sunday afternoon when most people head back home ,
There are lots more places to visit on the south coast , we tend to head off to the west coast and channel Isles in the summer ,similar distance to Holland that we used to visit when berthed on the east coast , I would recommend that you give it a try,

Be useful to know what boat it is and what your / partner's requirements are, eg Walk ashore vs tender.

Welcome to the South coast!

For a mastless one with a shallow draft you might find top end of Fareham creek worth a look , there’s a load of berths just off the junction on m275 without the need to encounter Gosport drivers . Provided the depth ok around Trafalgar marine at Fareham might be just the sort of place . It’s full of westerly and such like so shallow. Only tedious point is the motor down the harbour but I guess shedloads cheaper than Haslar. Much like being the wrong side of the bridge at the Hamble.. you could I suspect also look at Fishbourne creek on iow for a drying mooring -nice and close to the car ferry port even if que of cars down Fishbourne Lane can cause delays in summer months to access ferries along with protesting local residents racing by sometimes causes grief between the DFL and the cork heads .Other shallow berths to be found in Bembridge harbour or on the mainland Emsworth might be worth a visit. If I had a shallow mobo would like a harbour to pottery around in so Chichester harbour has much to offer in addition to the delights of east head in the summer .

Try shamrock quay in Southampton we pay about £6500 for 36 foot , there’s restaurant/ bar and force four chandeliers , all the staff are nice and they have crane and ashore storage

A pretty unlikely situation to hope to find in my experience................................................

Gosport Boatyard have good swinging moorings with a complimentary launch service.

Worth a punt...............................
Gosport boatyard is the one!

Clearly mooring costs are an issue, but the other key issue for us was travel time form home. We live near Stratford on Avon, so a couple of hours from the south coast. Many of the Solent marinas need a grimble through local roads, stop/start/shopping traffic. So we chose The Hamble, near the A27 bridge. For us the bridge limits the access so we chose Deacons, just south of the bridge. For our 39’ boat the cost was just under £7,000 pa. I think with your boat you will be find north of the bridge and the cost comes down considerably so as others have said, The Cabin, Foulkes or Eastlands would be fine. I expect your fees to be about £4K pa? Eastlands is the prettiest.

Sq brackets not possible, anywhere, at any money. Assume you mean pontoon.

Echo what Volvo Paul suggested, upper Hamble yards... Cabin boatyard , Foulkes and sons , Eastlands

Foulkes is quite full currently, and as there may be some "economic headwinds" next year there will be an exodus upstream to slightly less expensive moorings!!

I pay around £2,200 for a 23ft but its a partly drying mooring at springs..
