how much do you need? what's the job?

most large grp suppliers can get it if not in stock, eg CFS, Scott Bader or Glaspiles.

i have a mate who makes masts with the stuff in inverness, he'd proably sell you small quantities.

Thanks Chris

A winter pastime is building model gliders. I am just finishing a small slope soarer but feel the balsa leading edge of the wing could be more robust so I would like to reinforce it with carbon fibre thread fixed with cyanoacrylate. I would be very grateful if your mate might help with a few metres. Failing that thanks to you and Steve for the contacts

Regards
Cameron

I have some Cf in the form of a roving made up of 8µm strands, if this is any good pm me your address and I shall post you a couple of meters. I would suggest that you use epoxy rather than cynoacrylate though.

Martin

Hello Cameron.. You may find that Kevlar is the material you want for toughness in the skin of the wing. We had a local light aircraft manufacturer here who built the aircraft entirely of carbon fibre but put a layer of Kevlar on the outside to resist damage. Carbon is for stiffness easy to cut while Kevlar is flexible but very hard to cut. Try attacking it with scissors or drilling when hardened in epoxy and see how far you get. Kevlar drapes really easily over curved surfaces easier than glass so would suggest a skin on the glider wing.. regards will

You could also try Fibretech here . They attend most of the main model aircraft shows during the summer months, and supply the right materials in the right quantity for model aircraft. I often get gear from them!
