Sorenson oil lamp problems

I bought a Sorenson oil lamp just before Christmas hving read a piece on these in Classic Boat mag. It was deliverd on time and without damage to the wilds of the west of Ireland. It was a real shame that when lit it quickly dimmed to not much brighter than a small candle. Pretty useless really. I'm using proper lamp oil and I've even tried a new wick. Anybody else had similar problems? Any solutions? I don't really want to send it back. It's such a pleasing design. But I want an oil lamp that gives out some light.

I am not familiar with the "Sorenson oil lamp" if it is similar to the old huricane lanturn. I found with mine that the wick needs "priming" although the end is in the oil the top remains dry, try a few drops of oil on the top part of the wick to help draw the oil up. my lamp is a small one but the light is ok to read with.

best of luck
