You will see that this is my first post although I have been reading much of the goings on for some while.

I have been boatless for about 5 years now, having sold my boat to do the Charter / racing bit. Having done that, I now intend to buy a boat and resume sailing in and around the Solent, with my family.

I am looking for a 36/38ft fin keer for next season and would like to keep her in Porsmouth Harbour, Langstone or Chichester (in that order)

The challenge as you all well know is to find moorings that are not so expensive so as to completely put you off the idea. I have looked at the cost of marina berths and can safely say that that is out of the question.

So, I have two questions. Firstly what is the chance of any of the clubs having economical moorings and membership available. Can anyone suggest a club to contact?

Secondly, can anyone recommend any yards that have good accessible deep water swinging or pile moorings

I would appreciate any advise I can get
Thanks

Hayling Yacht Company, Mill Rythe. Telephone 02392 463592 for details. I won't list their shortcomings here, but no worse than any other yard I've known and better than some. I've kept my boat on a swinging, almost non-tidal mooring since 1987, I've no intention of moving, and they've nearly always got the odd mooring free. Some tidal pontoon berths in soft mud as well.
The marina at the top of Fareham creek has also been recommended to me,
(Camper & Nicholson's I believe,) we've had a few escapees go there as it's almost the same price but IMO less accessible.

Had a swinging 1/2 tide in Chichester (Emsworth) for the last year. Access isn't too great but I live there so that helps.

By the way "cheap" is relative - this is the Solent area.

I believe you should be a able to get a maintained swinging mooring in Chichester. Certainly the cheapest around seem to be Langstone if you lay your own but there are few facilities. Maintained moorings in Langstone are also fairly cheap.

As for clubs - Hayling Is. I believe is open to new members. It's expensive since they just built a 1M pound club house. Not sure of the mooring situation though. Emsworth Slipper Club has a great price but 4yr waiting list.

I believe there is usually a swinging mooring to be had from Portsmouth sailing club in Portsmouth harbour.

Try Gosport Boatyard in Portsmouth Harbour. They have moorings accessible at all states of the tide and a water taxi service from Hardway, Gosport. My mooring is opposite Burrow Island; it's a very convenient location and there's always something going on to look at. (Also a Police Launch keeping a eye on the boat 24/7).

Hi Slipknot.

Portsmouth Sailing Club currently has one swinging mooring available just inside the Harbour Entrance; close to Ballast Bouy - This is a Club maintained mooring. We also have a few moorings up at pile 98 (opposite North corner of the Dockyard)
which Members can maintain themselves.

I will send you a PM with contact details
