Soleniod Seacock?

On our boat the seacock for the engine cooling water intake is in quite an awkward position. I considered fitting a solenoid version that will be energised when the ignition is turned on. I would like also to have a way of manually over-riding it in case it breaks.

Has anyone done this before, and does anyone know where I can get such a part?

Have you thought of an extended spindle seacock? I believe that it is Plastimo that produce these - same as the manual item but with the handle extended by approx 1 ft.

i would not rely on a solinoid to open / close a seacock if it were to " fail-safe" i.e. shut, with engine @ cruising revs = no engine.
why not cap-off the existing one & fit another where you can get at it & the strainer.
kiss "keep it simple stupid"
y complicate things, skin fitting & seacocks r easy to fit yourself.

Hi Dave

What kind of seacock is it? Ours is a ball valve with the normal red lever and not too tight to turn so I am able to flick the lever over with a boat hook.
