Well i have at last sold my boat and got the money, this has not been an easy task by any means. My boat was in fantastic condition and i still struggled to sell it in this current market, it has been a real roller coaster ride for the past 6 weeks.

I did have to do a couple of minor things that the buyers survey picked up on like new fire extinguishers that were getting close to their date, new hour readers on the flybridge as it was difficult (but not impossible) to read the hrs (common fault) and a new holding tank gauge that was a bit temperamental apart from this the boat was mint.

I also had to reduce my boat to be one of the cheaperst in europe and it was the cheapest Fairline Phantom 40 in the uk and i still had to take a bid on this reduced price.

All i am saying is if you REALLY want to sell your boat you need to be very realistic with the price especially with all the cheap med boats about, anyway i am now sold and can move on

cheers shawn

ok well done , so do u have a new to u boat and did u use the market to bye it to compensate for cheap sale ,roy

Good news Shawn. Having viewed her online I thought you had the boat prepped and priced just right compared to the competition, so surprising it was hard to move her on, but like you say it's a tough market out there.

Hi Roy

Yes i have got another boat all lined up just need to send the money over on monday morning now and its all mine.

Its a Sealine S42 hardtop 2004 model, spec is air con, passerelle, generator, stern thruster, and best of all Tam 75 engines on shafts, really cant wait to get her loaded on the lorry all booked for March 31st and down to Weymouth

cheers shawn

Yes sorry, i have bought her off a fellow forumite and it was a private sale, I must say that the seller was fantastic throughout the whole experience. I viewed her a couple of times and could not really fault her the current owner has only had her just over a year and if he had not bought his new dream boat he would have kept her. She feels huge inside and has the perfect cockpit for us to chill out in.

exciting times for me :)

..........or could be that Phantom 40's are not such a sought after boat??

Thats nice to know what do you know about them good or bad and what do you think of the engine / drive set up in the one i have bought

Originally they made S41 (out drives) and S43 (shaft drive). Later boats were like your and S42 offered with out drives or shafts. The shaft drive boats are the ones to have. 41s had issues with some engine drive combos and a few have reported a tendency to chine walk. The shaft drive boats are more planted and I reckon the massive motors in yours will be lovely - can't have been many produced with that option.

Enjoy

Good Job Shawn and look forward to your delivery report and photos.

Would be interesting to compare your cost to change versus what it would have been using a broker to underwrite your Phantom.....without giving away the numbers, are you happy with the benefit of a private sale/purchase?

Well done again.

Nigel

I used J D Yachts to sell my boat who i must say were very good indeed nothing was too much trouble and they kept me informed all the way

I bought privately which i am very happy with the seller is a very honest and genuine guy shame there are not more people like him in the world today, When i first viewed the boat he left me and swmbo on the boat alone for a while to have a really good look around which was nice

That's good to hear, I shall look out for the boat when we come past in April/May.

Don't forget the pictures, I had a new boat delivered to Portland from Germany a few years ago and was so excited I went and found it on the M27 and convoyed with the safety car, great fun. Great timing for you and the new season!

yes i am going to spend the night before travel on the boat then follow her down for a bit so should get some video footage of her on the truck, then drop her in the yard do the anti foul change the anodes fit a seperator to the generator polish the hull refit all the stuff on the roof refit the props as lorry man said they will need to be removed then back in the water ready for easter weekend (well thats the plan)

Why would that be then, there was nothing wrong with it as far as i was concerned its just we wanted to go back to a sports boat

I'm not saying that there was anything wrong with it..............(I' m guessing that it was immaculate)........but the mould/shape could be showing it's age...........taste's move on .............what have Fairline produced to replace what was a popular boat ( I had one, and enjoyed it immensely).....Fairline did not need to be radical...... but did not seem to have the appetite to design a good boat in that "length "..

Phantom 40 is no way looking dated IMO. Good boat and no surprise took a little while to sell over the winter.
