It is easier if one sits at home & sews some webbing to a ring whilst watching Eastenders then if one puts a loop on the other end of the webbing one can thread it through the sail & fix a shackle with the block on it. This saves any sewing at the boat.

I'm tempted to offer nothing but foul abuse and ridicule to someone who watches Eastenders when there's all the drama, fascination and entertainment of watching paint dry available.... but here goes.

There's no need to actually SEW tape to a ring, although that's an option. Instead, sew or tie a loop of the required length. That can now be attached to the s/s ring by means of a Cow Hitch. At the boat, pass the other end of the loop through the tack or reef-tack eye, and also use a Cow Hitch to attach the second ring.

One could also make the loop from single-braid Dyneema, with an easy loop-splice. There are several vids, e.g.

Also, should one use a Barton or other High Load Low Friction Ring, then a cordage downhaul is also easy to rig and adjust.

You're welcome..... ;)

I can understand the comment about Eastenders-- But be careful as you may inadvertently offend some of the Moderators !!!- Well one never knows what people do behind closed curtains

Re the friction rings- I would not use these in this situation as I (Personal preference here ) use oversized ball bearing blocks.( But I use single line reefing so a lot of line has to pass through them)
Cow hitching webbing to a ring would be too bulky & rather crude.
Not all cringles are smooth on the inside edge & may cause damage to the dynema over time. So check first

But to each his own & it is not for me to say who is right or wrong-- About "Eastenders", or "paint drying"
Actually I am probably with you on the "paint" on this one!!!! But do not tell my daughter
