So who is taking there boat out the water

I take mine out every year, although there have been times when I had wished it was still in the water. It is a good thing to let the hull dry out, it is clearly not a wooden boat!

Coming out on Nov 28th. Jobs list is now too great with her in. Legs service, bottem sand blast, replace portion of rubbing strake bent by previous owner, Mend bow thruster---and thats just a start! Replace sea cocks, polish hull, replace anodes, 3 coats of epoxy, antifoul and with a bit of luck find some time to get pi55ed over xmas! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I debate this every year but always take her out so that I can do maintenance.

Actually she goes into a shed with about 8 other boats and we spend most weekends doing the jobs required, it is a social thing in the shed and many return year after year.

My boat is wood and this is the only way I find I get the time to keep her tip top, trying to do varnish when the sun is out is pointless, that's when I want to be using her.

I take her out for a full service, antifoul, anodes and polish hull in November/December and for two weeks then she goes back on the pontoon.

I Polish topsides in April on the berth.

In July two weeks before holiday on the boat I lift hold an relaunch within an hour for a light pressure wash, check anodes, cutlass bearings, props ropecutters etc and relaunch.

That way I keep the work out of the busy period and get the job done how I want it.

Mine comes out on Monday for 6-8 weeks for antifoul, anodes, outdrive service, bellows check and hull polish.

Do it now before it gets too cold !!

(If I do it before Christmas the marina gives me a free lift and wash off, worth £100, any time next year.)

Coming out at the end of this week. My insurers don't like the idea of a swinging mooring (even when it's 5 miles upriver and very sheltered) over the winter.

Oh well; if winter is on its way, can spring be far behind? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dropping the trailer down to the YC today and it's coming out this week. I'm off to Oz with work for 2 months and we've got an unwelcome visitor onboard (a Mink), so I don't fancy leaving it unattended in case the little sod starts munching the wiring / upholstery / anything else it fancies /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Out. Be nice to know when. The lift out was supposed to be booked ASAP, that was a month ago.
Being a just finished the first season newbie, you lot convinced me the hull would suffer osmosis and break apart and the metalwork would dissolve, the minute the boat left the ramp.

Hasn't happened yet, but can't tempt fate.

Will all swimmers with the green April armbands please leave the water....

I agree with you get it done early, there are deals to be had and if you find a serious problem there is time to get it fixed before the season proper.

going to take the boat down to the caledonian canal this year rather than leave her on the swing mooring in Plockton as is the norm, hopefully will be making the trip sometime in the first two weeks in November
First leg is to Tobermory then down to Fortwilliam into the canal to Fort Augustus for the night and a few pints in the Lock Inn then on to seaport marina at Inverness, she will be on a pontoon with shore power somthing of a luxury for us as the nerst shore-power pontoon is in Tobermory some 60nm away
It will also be handy for when we go for the main shop as we will be able to stay overnight rather than do the usual 106 mile round trip
And of course all those nasty barnacles will just drop off in all that lovely fresh water, the charges are quite reasonable Nov -March inclusive just under £900
Main reason for the canal choice is that the winter storms here appear to be getting worse in fact mates boat dragged its moorings yesterday in wind of over 70 knts and ended up as kindling on the lee shore of Lochcarron, some of you who have visited Plockton are sure to Know the boat, it was the Argus the seal trip boat run by Calum McKenzie ( sad Day) but knowing Calum he will find a new boat for next season and be up and running in no time
On the brighter side self SWMBO and son are off to Taz for a month over Christmas and new year to visit the daughter, which is another reason for parking the boat up at Inverness
Roll on the Winter

We are taking her out, probably for 4 months, for the first time in 4 years. Just to give her a rest and do some jobs that are easier to do on the "hard".

This means that the months of Dec-Mar will be the warmest and calmest on record.

I hope you're right!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nuffink Dubhing is staying dry berthed so we have all year round access. She is all tucked up warm and cosy in the brand new indoor facility at Yacht Haven Quay in Plymouth. Paul has scrubbed and polished her as she has just gone up for sale though, so I may not be allowed to take her out and get her dirty again for a while!

Out for a week a little while ago after 18 months afloat.

List of big jobs.
Six years worth of not being able to arrive anywhere without the reassuring crunch of gelcoat repaired.
One leg completely rebuilt .
Fit new exhaust riser.(Unplanned expense)
A nice thick coat of some anti foul or other.
Rubbing bands replaced probably for the very first time since being built.
(5 mins to remove 2 days to violently hammer back in using lots of Fairy liquid)
Small jobs.
Replace mooring light bulb with LEDs to see if any good?
Hopefully brighter light with a lot less current consumption and far more reliable due to bulb contacts not corroding up or filaments breaking due to vibration/opld age.

Oldgits Acme patented bulb replacement conversion.Probably not much use for MoBos but OK for yachts?

Lifted the boat last week in August and have been ready to go back in for the last two weeks - just need a drop from 'gale' to somewhere below 'storm'. Hope to get back in the water in the next two week (work vs tide vs weather, weather won last two weeks)

We came out last monday, lots of jobs to do while out, so will be down on it every weekend.

We tend to come out for 4 months every other year
