My two sons and I decided to get out to do some fishing on the Mersey. The lock has been closed for 5 weeks and this was our first opportunity really.
Any way she started first turn which was a good start, just as we were about to slip the lines to leave a mini blizzard hit the marina ( Slight exageration !!) so we hung on. It calmed and we radioed to the lock keeper to request a lock out- no probs the gates will be open for us. Hmmm we noticed no one else going out - any way thats good no manoevre probs in the lock then.
It's the cod season here and we have never caught one so it was game on. Went only a short distance and i went onto the bow to set the anchor.Snow came down and wind blew and i couldnt get the chain harness to easliy connect after deploying the anchor- due to a fiddly little fixing device that connects the rope to the chain.Fiddling about I nearly slipped then fingers went numb and that sickness feeling from the cold and wet came over me - it was serously cold and my clothes were soaked.I made my way back on an icy plastic surface hanging on to the grab rails and dropped into the cockpit on the port side.
Any way my sons got fishing and i recovered for 30 mins with hot chocolat and a sugary galaxy biscuit!! Now thats sounds old manish but soddin true!
Anyway they both caught a whiting and were well chuffed which i am pleased about because i want to encourage them more on the boat as they are great crew and great lads. Thankfully returned ok but this was our first experience of boating in the snow with very mixed feelings but thankfully two nice fish.
Just wish i had taken a photo but mind was on other things!!
