a while back i posted up asking for information on a snapdragon association.much thanks to all who replied, but after emailing all the addresses on show, and sending several letters, nothing, as yet, is forthcoming.does anyone know if the association is still alive, or have the contact details changed?i am just embarking on a semi-major refit, and the sort of information that could be gleamed from them would be invaluable.

I left them in the end - particularly South Coast Branch - found it basically a Newsletter and not much else unless you are East Coast.

Some questions about Snapdragon 26

Hello

I wound like to live on the bout. There are always same connections witch society, thinkings to do on the earth, but I want that bout is my relay home. This live don’t cost sou much and offer a lot possibility for freedom. There are the people witch live in this way. I thing that this is same choose.
That is truth that this earth is more and more seed , sou why not ?... I have this idea in head since 2 years and I imagine how it can be ( economically ). This is home for all live, witch move ...
Now I have for this idea 7000 Euro, I think add a'little more. For this price it is possible buy something what I want. I want something fore move in sweet water and in the see, and can handly put down mast. There are same English boats like Snapdragon 26, 24, Westerly Pageant.
Hear is my list:
Westerly Pageant, See master 23, Snapdragon 24, Snapdragon 26, Kent 27 G class, Vivacity 24,
Leisure Leisure, MacWester 28, Mac Wester 26, Cristal Csistal 22, Kingfisher 26.
They are similar, and every have bi quell. The moist I like Snapdragon 26 – only a'little bigger draft like Westerly Pageant ( or the same ), and this bout have 8 metes. I know that I must reduce every my things to minimum, sou 8 metres is better.
I have looked a'little on forums to take opinion about this bout ( Snap 26 ).I have listened good things and something negative – it's about that it don’t sail good "contre wind".
And more, and more I ask, and less and less I sure of something.
People took that in sailing Snap. 26 it is the same like Westerly Pageant. Sou I have asked one man who has West. Pageant. And he said me: “ dont belive in this what people took, tray yourself.
After he said that he have done competition with difrents boat on one lake. And on weak and middle
wind he has been a'little ( not a'lotte) behind. On strong wind he has been only person witch has sail
and speed of boat has been super good ( in this condition). And contre wind he has been the best.
Sou it is completly opposite for this what took the others. If sailing is the same on Snap. 26.
I must nou what I chose, and I like Snap. 26. It can be West. Pageant too – but this bout is smoler
sou I prefere Snap 26. Sou if I must nou somethingk – I want ask to the people wchitch nou,
and like this boat.

Sou can someone explain me maybee somethingk about thiss questions, pleace.

I sold my Snappie 26 (Merlin) to a man from Poolbeg YC in Dublin - he came with a trailer and towed it back. Looks very smart on their website.

Re Ralf

I can't speak specifically for the Snapdragon 26 as I have the 24, but Snapdragons are very strongly built and have a lot of room inside for their length. In my experience, my 24 is fine to stay aboard for a few days to a couple of weeks, but I'd find her too small to live on, especially in bad weather. You may do fine, but I'd go crazy! The bigger 29 has far more room - a much better bet for living on.

As for sailing ability, most Snappies have shallow bilge keels. They have a reputation for being slow, but handled well, they can keep up a reasonable speed, but you won't win many races! On a reach, in a decent breeze, I can maintain 5.5-6 knots. To windward, they have to be sailed free and kept upright or the keels lose their grip and they just go sideways. Trying to tack against wind & tide is strictly for when you aren't in a hurry. You probably won't make any real progress against Force 6 or more, but I've been caught in 30+ knots and, while it was uncomfortable, the boat coped with the conditions well with a bit of help from the engine.

I found technical officer helpful on the phone, but he does not use e-mail.

I have gradually done up a 747 and found that most things are doable and worth the effort.

So far: trailer, engine rebuild, windows, mast, tabernacle, some interior lining, LED lights, toilet, seacocks, grab handles, paint job.

Next job is the rudder.

Good luck!
