I just bought a Snapdragon 26 with a dual axle trailer and need to buy a truck that will pull it. Does someone know the specifics so I can determine what kind of truck I'll need to buy?

I would guess that the boat and trailer will be around 3.5 tons, maybe a bit more depending on the kit/engine on board.

I sold my Snappie 26 and the owner collected it from Essex and towed it back to Dublin using a 4x4. The displacement is 4500 lbs plus kit, fuel, water plus trailer.

I have a dufour 1800, I have built a trailer for it (and built it to satisfy uk regs) the maximum you are safely allowed to tow is 3500kg. The total weight is about 2800 kg. You will definately need a 4x4, and something big! I bought an old but reliable Mitsubishi Shogun which can tow upto 3300 kg.
You need to look at the vehicles specifications, if you go to Parkers guide online and look for the vehicle review (you will need to go to 'more facts and figures') that normally gives the braked towing weight. An example for my vehicle is here:

You will need to know the gross weight ie boat + trailer.

Whatever you do, before you go on the road, ensure the trailer brakes are in A1 order. I towed a Macwester 26, with over-run brakes, behind a Landrover Series 3, over a fairly hilly route. I didn't much enjoy the trip, esp the downhill bits. Fortunately we chose a quiet, very early Sunday am.
The gross weight was probably around 3.5 Te, You will probably be less than that. If above , power operated brakes are needed AFAIK.

You don't say where you are based. Is it in the UK? Towing laws are entirely different in different countries.

I'm in Denver Colorado USA. I'm most interested in the weight of the boat so I can come up with the GROSS WEIGHT and purchase a vehicle capable of moving this thing across the country. I figured somewhere around 5,000 pounds but now I'm thinking maybe more like 7,000 pounds? Thanks for all the advice. I'm also looking for any information such as diagrams, manuals, specs, anything to do with this old boat. I'm going to restore it and the current owner has none of the old information.
