You are running a Ford? if so no worries they all do it, due to lowish compression engine and cold even in the !Summer, when warm and under load they are fine.
Try not to let it 'tick over' particularly when not under load. When a diesel is running under a light load, its pistons often do not make a good enough seal against the cylinder sides, so failing to ensure a full burn of all the fuel injected, so allowing unburnt diesel to pass through into the exhaust - white smoke. This also makes the engine's cylinder bores wear more quickly.
So alway make diesels 'work' and work hard.
