Slipways Needed

I am interested in boating in the Southampton and Portsmouth areas (Solent). I am looking to launch an 18 foot power boat on a bunk trailer, so I need a fairly steep slip.

I wonder then if any of you know of any good slipways in these areas (including Gosport and Hamble areas), and with the suggestions, if you could say how much of the tidal range you can use them and whether there are pontoons by the slip (yes, I have actually seen slips where there is nowhere to get on the boat!?!), what parking facilities there are for both cars and trailers near the slip, and finally, costs to use the slips and car parks. I will consider all slips, both public and private.

Thanks folks!!!

Lymington, there are two. Not quite where you said, a bit further west. One slip is right in the town, one is at the yacht club just downriver of berthon

Both reasonablegradient, good for a bunk trailer, concrete surface. Both have jetty right by. Small fees, cant remeber but less than tenner

No trailer parking in town, but big pay/display right next to the yacht club slip. Also can park in Berthons (for fee) or many people park along the side of the streets nearby

Both available at all tides.

Locality is beautiful, straight into Solent across to Yarmouth, and Lymington is beautiful town

There's a book listing all slipways cant remeber the name but amazon will find

We launched at Mercury - nice slip - little bit slippery but good facilities.

there is one under the Itchen Bridge which is very good with free parking and use, We used it at half tide to recover a 21ft sports boat recently and was impressed. This drops you in the water just a few hundred yards up river from Ocean Village on the River Itchen.

There is also a public slip further up river just north of Northam Bridge, right under my Balcony, it is a little shallow but I used it a few times to launch and retrieve my sealine 195 before I sold it. There is also the added bonus of me being able to laugh at you and shout usless advise if it all goes wrong )

I will try to get you better directions if thses sound useful.

okies, Well the one nearest me is just off priory road which you get to from St Deny Road and drive right to the end almost and it is on your left, there can be a lot of cars parked up the road so have to take it slow, for a better map go to streetmap.co.uk and us SO17 2NP as your post code, that gets the arrow pointing just at the slip. If you use that one just round the other side of the flats you will see some moorings, Bacchus is on the furthest away mooring, gimme a wave if you see me.

As for the other one, erm, you have to bear with me as I only just moved to Southampton. I do not know where you are coming from but you need to head for the waterfront and fine Canute Road, it is the road that goes past Ocean Village, you want O'V' on your right keep going you will go under the itchen Bridge and it is the first or second turn on your right.

The latter is better for recovering but can get a little busy from time to time.

For a nice steep slip, you could try the Camber slip in Old Town, Portsmouth. £2 barrier charge and handy car/trailer Pay-And-Display nearby.

I use the Hythe slipway opposite the mouth of the Itchen. I can get a 25' yacht on and off a bunk trailer there with no problems for about 2 hrs either side of HW. A smaller boat will probably have more range.

The slip is possibly a little shallow and my Disco gets a good soaking. I think next year I'll probably use a strop on the trailer to keep the Disco out the water.

No launch fees and good free parking. The marina allow use of their waiting pontoon. Staff are really nice there too. If you're out overnight there are security guards for the marina which cover the parking area so gives extra security.
