Slip Charges

Afternoon All,

Quick question as I'm very wet behind the ears and on a steep learning curve.

Just want to check a price for using a boat yard slipway.

My boat has been launched by the guy who's carried out the work for me using his vehicle and the boat on my trailer.
The slip belongs to another yard.

Now I've just been told it's 51 quid in and 51 quid out which seems bloody steep to me for a 7m boat.

Is this about right or do I need to tell the yard to "re-check" the bill ? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Yard Slip charges are about £30 in and out. The cost of using their vehicle, labour and insurance is then added on top. It often ends up a similar price as using a crane, so £51 each way is not too exhornitant given the norm.

Marinas charge about £35/40 each way in UK, I think, but the idea is begining and end of season, I think, not daily!

Nope, this is in the UK.
I've had a load of work carried out on the boat and she's been launched and sat on a mooring for a couple of months to check everything is okay before I bring her out to Greece.
It still seems steep but by the sounds of it I'm not being completely fleeced....well no more than normal in the boating world.

Just when you think you have finished paying the bills for the time being another one comes along.....such is life.

Ah good oul Ireland... I've never paid to use a slip... But then again we've got very little marinas over here.

I wouldnt mind paying a few quid to use a decent slip... but £51 each way? Jebus!

I'm a bit buggered as the boat is still in and I'm a few 1000 km's away. It's not the guy I'm using that's charging me but another yard....plus my boat will be staying in my guys yard for a couple of months until I get back in May, so I can't go too ape.

I shall have words tomorrow but I don't really have many options.....oh well, shall be leaving the UK soon and as you say NiallOFlaherty, it's the same here. The slips aren't much cop but you don't pay to use em.

I'd say that was expensive,although he was slipping it for you,but still,if its his yard and 10mins work then i'm in the wrong bloody trade.

I personally would'nt want to pay much for than a tenner with me slipping the boat but some marina's do take the mic. Cobbs quay in Poole £35 return self service, no way i'd pay that. Some slips are free too, you just pay to park,now thats fair.

Afterall, your only putting a damn boat in the water and boating cost enough as it is for the majority
