A Slick is a giant heavy wood chisel with a long handle, often used for shaping edges of planks, Sometimes even fitted with a spade type handle, i doubt you could buy one new.
Might be worth looking at Tony Murlands Toolshop on the web for an old one.

WoodenBoat magazine recently had an article by Harry Bryan on making your own slick using steel from a broken leaf spring. This included information on tempering the shaped slick. I don't have that issue, as I read copies from my local municipal library. I think that they have an index on their website.
