single engine diesel

Ok, I know that I have only just got my boat this year but I am loving it and looking to the future and when I decided its time to upgrade to the next boat (not for some time yet), So the question is I currently berth at Gosport on the drystack, which I think is brilliant and suits all my needs at present, but I was surprised to see that they now accept boats up to 11m on the drystack (maybe because of the new build) Well I suppose in the future I will want to upgrade to a bigger boat (mine is currently just over 30ft). So to get to the point what is the largest boat in length and weight that can be powered by a single engine. I am thinking I would need to be able to cruise at 20-22 knts, The reason that I don't want twins is because of running costs I know that they are easier to drive, steer and berth, however twice the servicing cost, twice the maintenance and almost twice the fuel. Any recommendation?

Seem to recall that some of the Scandinavian boats did this quite successfully ... one of the bigger ones with single install (and some speed) was the viksund 34 Santa Cruz ... think they had the Volvo 74 or 75 series installed and connected to straight shafts....

That's a nice boat, Unfortunately out of my price range, but it most definitely is what I would be after

Comes as a hard-top version as well, and the earlier version was named as Viksund 34 ... here at approx. £75K..

Marex 370 is single shaft (and lovely)

Also the Nord West 900 .... which does have a neat aft cabin and prop and rudder protected with proper skeg ... came with or without flybridge ... also later extended and emerged as Nord West 330 ... Common engine was a 370 Hp single diesel, which gives a reasonable turn of speed... Good accommodation and well built boats..

Increasingly this is becoming an irrelevant question as more and more manufacturers develop single engine versions. I know it isn't what you meant by your post but Elling have just announced a 60 foot plus E6 model that will be single engine. Hardy are also developing single engine versions - the 40DS is one such. So - to take you literally there isn't really a limit to length and weight. The other posts have made very constructive suggestions about specific boats.
