I've just fitted a simrad tp10 which is working fine until I try to use the Tack facility.
The boat tacks in the correct direction, the helm goes hard over then the tiller pilot reaches its full travel then goes into standby mode the result is the boat keeps on turning and if I don't intervine it will do a full 360 degree turn. I have tried simulating the tack in the marina by using the tack feature and turning the unit through 100 degrees while not conected to the tiller, if I do it before it reaches its full travel it appears to work ok. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? I thought I would ask before I contact Simrad.

Thanks

I had a similar problem with my TP 30. It would occasionally just cut out and go to stand-by mode. This would also invariably happen when using the tack facility. At the same time my GPS would switch itself off! This drove me mad all last season. I eventually traced it to a poor contact in my main battery switch. Since I have cleaned the terminals I have not had any problem. It seems that tiller pilots draw a lot of current when the tiller movement starts, this is enough for a poor contact somewhere in the circuit to arc and result in a voltage drop which puts the tiller pilot into stand-by and trips the voltage sensitive GPS.

Sounds like you have a very similar problem, start hunting with the multimeter!
