Have stripped down and repaired a Simpson Lawrence windlass, and have removed the layers of white paint getting back to bare aluminium.
What primer and paint is recommended for ally?

See other post re clutch handles. Degrease, then etch primer to give a good bond onto the alluminium, and a 2-pack paint like International Perfection 709 will be durable and stand up to the knocks.

I used hammerite 4 years ago and it has lasted OK and will not need doing for a long time. I used the special primer for alluminium and then about 3 coats of white. The more coats the better. Paul PS I reckon hammerite will last much longer than Internation paint.
