But I have to pay my tax. If a company can't, then they should have to; and dodges to allow the company to restart should be made impossible until the tax is paid! One law for the rogue type of capitalists and another for the poor loyal workers.

But companies may legally be sold to someone else who is nothing to do with the original collapse. You wouldn't want the totally new company to be unable to start up due to the debts and the poor loyal workers becoming poor loyal ex-workers.

We should shoot them that would ensure every businesman only starts up companies in other countries with different rules. Get real!

Reminder - As another poster stated there is no hint that the Southerly management did anything to take money out of the company merely arranged assets so that the company and its workforce can continue after this economic problem of being insolvant.

Got to remark that as one of the few surviving Uk boatbuilding companies don't the UK public love to knock them almost as bad as being the England football manager. What is it about the english that we are so self critical yet accept worse behaviour abroad.

Biggest Disappointment: Contest 42

I thought this had real promise as it is supposed to be more performance with comfort than previous models. I think that it looks really nice for a modern boat from the outside and I really liked the look of it… However when you go below it is simply awful. It is wasteful of space so whilst there is lots of room it is not eel used, The interior is "modern" and has nothing that offers any appeal. I can't imagine that the interiors of Contest boats are likely to appeal to the sort of people who would want to buy their boats. If you look at Oyster they have a modern spin as have Southerly and they both work, but the Contests have all the style of Austin Powers.

I said it looked like the inside of an Ikea wardrobe, a real let down the 62 was superb

The strange thing is they seem really proud of using a firm of designers to model the interior. The designs include lots of sharp corners and poor use of space. If you want the interior of a boat designed you need someone who knows a bit about sailing.

My wife is a Chartered Accountant, Southerly did it in a particularly unpleasant way.

Spot on.

The sort of practice they appear to have used should carry heavy penalties for the Directors/ Principals involved.

I only hope the apprentices they took on are able to continue their training and the skilled workforce can be bought up to the previous level without too much hardship for the employees.

Having seen the same senario in the Motor Cycle retail trade many times I wondered if the house of cards would collapse after the huge stands, lots of Pronotion girls and lavish hospitality from Southerly at the last few shows.

If you make a good product it is not a requirement for increased sales-the boats speak for themselves.

I admit that if we buy another boat it is likely to be a Southerly and Carl (one of their salemen clearly has me in his sights - I bought a Dufour when he worked for them) but while I always check on my potential purchase target I have always missed the above - as quoted.
