O who can recommend a good 30 metre hose as in Torquay there are very few taps on the pontoons , us northerners like to wash our boats init.

We paid a small fortune for 50m jobbie from B&Q. Not only was it too long but it split after a couple of months!

We replaced it with one of these delivered next day (courtesy of Prime) to a marina we were visiting. So far so good and quite impressed with it.

I have found that the expanding and lay-flat types take up less room but tend to develop leaks after a few years so, assuming you have the storage space, one of these will last a very long time Hozelock 2412 Compact Reel with Hose Pipe - 25m | Wickes.co.uk . if you really need 30m then just a 5m piece stored loose with the correct connectors will extend it when required.

I just buy ordinary 50m hose from Screwfix and chop it in half, coil it badly and chuck it in a locker. CBA with flat or shrinky hoses that apparently don’t last. If you need 30m, buy 100m and chop in three - you’ll be flush with hose for years.

It still basically stores ‘flat’ - based on the hose OD and adding a 1000% margin for my lazy coiling - so not more than a 150mm layer in the locker!

I bought mine from Asda, less than 20 Quid if I recall correctly. Not the greatest quality, but way cheaper than some other brands so can just replace when it gives up. They did 2 lengths. Can always connect 2 together if need it longer.

I have a Hozelock expandable. The original’yellow’ version went bang. They seem to have modified it an the ‘ grey’ version is more industrial and lives in a dry bag on the boat. It was twice the price but so far worth it.

We recently replaced our old garden hose and now use the blue hose that is certified for use with drinking water….https://www.amazon.co.uk/Certified-drinking-caravans-motorhomes-connectors/dp/B01GZU6G7O

was told/recommended not to use normal garden hose (if using to fill your tank) as it is not meant for potable water. Don’t know how true that really is but must say the water does seem to taste better/less plasticky? May be our imagination though!

Not sure about potable versus non potable hose because when filling our tanks it is not in direct contact very long. we fill our tank in under 20 minutes of continuous flow and flush it out of the reel before next fill up. Not sick yet and we drink water daily either in soft drinks/squash or coffee Scientists may tell me it is dangerous but at my age there are more worries to immediately concern me. Of more cocer is the water stuck in the pontoon pipes especially in the current high temperatures

Me neither….but we needed to replace our old hose (that really was a health hazard!!) and figured there was little real difference in cost so went for the potable one. And it is a nice ‘boaty’ blue colour!!!

Some years ago I was bought an X-hose as a present, lasted maybe 3 years before busting. Liked the convenience compared to the roll up hoses so bought the pro version. Initially disappointed as the fabric outer tends to pick up splinters off the pontoons but to be fair it’s lasted a good 3 years probably longer.

At Swanwick marina this weekend the water pressure was immense and I though it might finish it off but no, still hanging on in there.

I suspect we will have to change it at some point but they are great, store it in the wash bucket.
